AboutIsabella Ferguson

My work is shaped by a long professional history in high-pressure environments and a deep interest in how people adapt, cope, and change over time.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent two decades working as a litigation lawyer. That experience gave me an enduring respect for complexity, systems, ethics, and the psychological impact of sustained pressure. It also informs the way I work now — thoughtfully, carefully, and with an appreciation for how personal distress often arises within broader life, relational, and professional contexts.

I now work as a counsellor supporting adults who are navigating periods of change, emotional strain, or patterns that no longer serve them. This includes work with anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, identity transitions, and unhelpful coping strategies such as people-pleasing, perfectionism, and problematic alcohol use.

My approach is psychologically informed and evidence-based. I’m interested not only in symptom relief, but in helping people understand what sits beneath their distress, clarify what matters to them, and make changes that are sustainable over time.

Alongside individual counselling, I’ve developed structured programs — including Your Alcohol Revolution — for people who prefer a guided, reflective approach to behaviour change. These programs remain available as a resource, though my practice is increasingly focused on individual work.

I practise in accordance with the Australian Counselling Association Code of Ethics and provide confidential, professional care. I’m based in Sydney and work with clients across Australia and internationally via telehealth.
